In February 2026, something happened on Príncipe Island that had never happened before. For the first time, residents received a direct financial payment in recognition of their care for the natural world around them.

The story of FAYA Foundation on Príncipe Island, a people-first model of sustainable development that links environmental care with shared prosperity.

FAYA exists to answer a simple but urgent question: What does it look like when environmental progress is driven by communities, not delivered to them? Our vision and mission are more than words. They are the foundation for every system we build, every relationship we hold, and every choice we make in the field.

Recently, one of FAYA’s team members facilitated a family planning workshop at Padrao School, supported by Nurse Lurdes. The group was small. The setup was simple. But the impact reached far beyond the day itself.

Faya Foundation was featured in Travel + Leisure for its efforts in preserving the true essence of Príncipe Island through sustainable initiatives.
